Vysa-Pron MAX tile backer boards are an excellent addition to any underfloor heating system and can be fitted directly over:

•Wooden floor boards
•Chipboard or other similar sub-floors
•Concrete or sand and cement screeded sub-floors

1. Wooden floor boards

Vysa-Pron MAX tile backer boards can be bonded directly to wooden floor boards just like they can to a concrete sub-floor.

In addition, the 10mm thick (not 6 mm thick) Vysa-Pron MAX tile backer boards can be ‘mechanically’ fixed to the wooden floor boards using suitable countersunk head screws with penny washers under the head provided that the floor is flat and level.

A third option is to apply a bead of Vysa-Bond Ultimate to Vysa-Pron MAX tile backer boards and bond them directly to wooden floor boards or chipboard floors FAST with much less work for a 100% reliable installation.

3. Concrete or sand and cement screeded sub-floors

Vysa-Pron MAX tile backer boards can be bonded directly to a concrete sub-floor. Apply a bed of flexible floor tile adhesive using a notched trowel, then fix the Vysa-Pron MAX tile backer boards.

Slight depressions in the sub-floor will be taken up by the adhesive. The boards should be thoroughly ‘bedded’ to ensure that no voids remain beneath them.

Fixing Vysa-Pron MAX to Concrete Sub-Floors

Ensure the floor is suitably level and dust free. New cement or concrete should be fully cured before laying Vysa-Pron MAX.

The concrete or screed sub-floor must be relatively flat and smooth. It must be clean, secure and free from loose materials. If appropriate, fill large cracks and holes with sand and cement mix to repair a damaged concrete sub-floor.

Apply a bed of flexible floor tile adhesive using a notched trowel and then fix the boards. Slight depressions in the sub-floor will be taken up by the adhesive.

The Vysa-Pron MAX boards should be thoroughly bedded to ensure that no voids remain beneath them. Butt the boards close together, laid in chequer plate fashion, like bonding brickwork.

A waterproof joint can be made by applying silicone sealant to the edge of the board before butting the adjacent board to it. When the adhesive is dry, tape the board joints using fibreglass reinforcing scrim tape and more adhesive.

Fixing Vysa-Pron MAX to Wooden Sub-Floors

vysa-pron1Vysa-Pron MAX tile backer boards are the ideal floor preparation for Vysa-Mat heating mats or cables on top of a wooden floor boards or a chipboard sub-floor.

The wooden floor boards or a chipboard sub-floor must be sound, flat and smooth. It must be clean, secure and free from loose materials.

Vysa-Pron MAX tile backer boards are not suitable to cover large holes in the floor. Holes of 50-75mm (2″ ~ 3″) size may be bridged but larger holes must be repaired as appropriate.

Ensure that the floorboards or chipboard is securely fixed to the joists. If in any doubt at all, use countersunk head screws or ring nails at 300mm centres across the whole area to fix the floor securely.

Alternatively, 10mm thick Vysa-Pron MAX may be ‘mechanically’ fixed to wooden floor boards or a chipboard sub-floors using suitable countersunk head screws with penny washers under the head (to distribute the load). NB 6mm boards MUST NOT be mechanically fixed – use only flexible tile adhesive.

Using Vysa-Bond ULTIMATE

NB – On the illustration below, the length of the insulation board is 1200mm and NOT 1250mm as shown!

vysa-bondApply Vysa-Bond ULTIMATE using a cartridge gun. This pattern of application should bond 2 x sheets of Vysa-Pron MAX. Larger beads to fill greater gaps will require more adhesive.

Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from any contaminants liable to impair adhesion.

Vysa-Bond ULTIMATE adhesive should be applied to only one of the surfaces to be bonded  typically the sheet of Vysa-Pron MAX.

When bonding non-absorbent materials to each other it is advisable to fog water on the applied adhesive in order to achieve a complete hardening.

The parts to be bonded should be assembled within the film formation time (after dampening maximum 5 minutes).

We recommend a bead of adhesive applied 25mm from edge of board and the at 150mm centres. Boards should be slid into position to spread adhesive across the back of the board. The adhesive should be applied as a 3mm bead.
